Central Victorians can look forward to even better angling and recreation opportunities at the popular Cairn Curran Reservoir thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett MP have announced funding for upgrades to the Boat Ramp and the construction of an amenity block at the reservoir’s Picnic Point, to allow greater community access and improve facilities.

A $112,715 grant from the Recreational Boating Grants Program will enable Goulburn Murray Water to repair the Picnic Point Boat Ramp concrete ramp surface, reduce erosion alongside the ramp, resurface the car park and replace signage.

$50,000 in funding from the Recreational Fishing Grants Program will enable Goulburn Murray Water to install an all-abilities amenity facility. The self-composting, zero discharge facility will be constructed at Picnic Point, near the boat ramp and other facilities. It’ll feature two unisex cubicles and a third big enough for wheelchairs.

“Investing in worthwhile projects such as an upgraded boat ramp and an amenity facility will ensure locals and visitors will continue to have terrific opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors," Maree Edwards MP, Member for Bendigo West said.

“I know Cairn Curran’s recreation groups will benefit from these upgrades.”

Member for Ripon Martha Haylett MP said she looks forward to these works being complete so that even more people can enjoy this much-loved place.

“Our government recognises the huge benefits places like Cairn Curran bring for tourism, as well as the wellbeing of so many locals.”

Cairn Curran has also been a big beneficiary of the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s record-breaking fish stocking program and fishers are reaping the rewards.

More than a million fish have been released into the reservoir since 2019 including more than 465,000 Murray cod, 506,000 golden perch and 75,000 brown trout.

A further 350,000 cod and golden perch fingerlings will be stocked this summer along with 10,000 brown trout yearlings being released later this month.
